The World's
Premier Emergency
Medicine
Congress

The International Federation for Emergency Medicine Global Congress on Emergency Medicine, formerly known as the International Conference on Emergency Medicine (ICEM), represents one of the most significant international gatherings in the field of emergency medicine. Held annually over four days in June, the congress brings together emergency physicians, healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, and policymakers from across the world to advance emergency care through collaboration, education, and innovation.

The origins of the congress date back to 1986, when the first ICEM was held in London through a collaborative initiative involving the American College of Emergency Physicians, Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, Royal College of Emergency Medicine, and the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians. Over the decades, the congress has grown into the premier global platform for emergency medicine, fostering professional exchange, international networking, and the sharing of best practices from diverse healthcare systems and cultures.

In 2027, the congress enters a historic new era as Kuala Lumpur hosts the 26th edition of the meeting. This milestone also marks the official transition from ICEM to the IFEM Global Congress on Emergency Medicine. The new identity reflects the continued growth and increasing global influence of emergency medicine as a vital component of healthcare systems worldwide.

More than a scientific meeting, the IFEM Global Congress symbolizes a united international commitment to strengthening emergency care. It recognizes emergency medicine as a foundational pillar of global health and serves as a platform where nations come together to shape policy, improve education, and advocate for equitable access to high-quality emergency care.

While the name evolves, the spirit of the congress remains unchanged — a vibrant and inclusive global community dedicated to improving emergency care for all people, in all countries.

Congress Theme 2027

One in
Diversity,
Rise for
Humanity

Emergency medicine unites a vast, richly varied global community — physicians and nurses, paramedics and researchers, students and seasoned clinicians — each shaped by a different culture, health system, and set of challenges.

Yet beneath that beautiful diversity lies a singular shared purpose: to be present, skilled, and unwavering when a human life hangs in the balance. In Kuala Lumpur, we gather as one — across every language, every border, every context — to rise together for humanity.
